Food Revolution Resolution

So, New Years Eve celebrations are upon us tonight and as we wake from our slumber on New Years Day does our head start to fill with our personal Resolutions?

Considering a food or diet resolution? How many vow to improve their diet and eat more healthily? But, isn’t healthy food boring & bland? No, not necessarily.

Every day, the culinary team at Organic Connection create healthy dishes that deliciously delight our senses with flavorful tastes and aromas.

The point and proof is that healthy food can be very, very delicious and enjoyable.

So, our ‘resolution’ at Organic Connection is to help provide more ways for our customers to eat deliciously and healthily.

To begin, we’ve expanded our eat-in seating. This includes a larger space for our special dinner nights that will accomodate more people.

Also, we’re offering our first cooking class – a hands-on experience to learn ways to easily cook healthily and deliciously.

Healthy food isn’t boring; it’s exciting! We’re creating new foods nearly every day at Organic Connection:

Have you tried our hot cocoa? It’s sweetened with Agave and uses coconut milk.

How about our wholegrain spelt pizza slices? They’re topped with our own tomato pesto, grilled vegetables and cheese.

Food resolution considerations:

  • Eat organic. More flavor from healthier plants.
  • No refined sugars & no cane sugar. Agave and Honey provide excellent healthier substitutes.
  • Eat organic. Reduces the accumulation of chemicals in our bodies.
  • No refined grains, breads or flour. Whole-grain rice, whole-grain breads and whole-grain pastas provide far superior nutritional value with nice flavor.
  • Eat organic. There really is no excuse. The benefits are extensive and obvious to the discerning.
  • Eat more salads and raw foods. Consider beginning each meal with a larger salad. Raw foods provide vitality.
  • Eat organic. Did I mention this yet?

Wishing you a happy and healthy new year,

from all the staff at Organic Connection.

Red, White & Green

Organic, biodynamic, low-input, salmon-safe and sustainable – all terms which denote a message. But what is it?

By Sarah Lemon, Mail Tribune, December 30

The hottest new color in wine isn’t red, white or rosé. It’s green.

As organic and other eco-friendly labels have taken root in the U.S. wine industry, consumers are left with a lexicon of terminology to sort out. Organic, biodynamic, low-input, salmon-safe and sustainable – they all denote a message.

But what is it?

“There’s a lot of approaches to – quote-unquote – green right now,” says Jim Fullmer, executive director of Demeter USA.

“These are all, in a way, brands that people are starting to recognize,” Fullmer says. “It’s become quite a big business.”

Fullmer’s group, Demeter USA, certifies vineyards and other farming operations in, what its practitioners believe, are the most stringent standards for environmental stewardship. While its American chapter is headquartered in Kings Valley, near Corvallis, Demeter started in 1920s Europe as a way to ensure standards in agriculture, Fullmer says.

The group’s focus on certifying self-sustaining farms that practice a form of environmental homeopathy is relevant amid modern-day concerns about the use of fossil fuels and production of greenhouse gases.

“It’s a real green idea,” Fullmer says. “It’s more than just not harming salmon; it’s regenerating land.”

Thank you for your support

This time of year brings reflection. A time to look at what we have and haven’t accomplished in the year and a time to look at ahead towards the new year.

It is a little more than a year ago that we opened Organic Connection in Brewster. And with any comprehensive retail food market, the costs of fitting out, setting up and establishing a new store are financially significant. It generally takes some time before such a business becomes profitable. We shall look forward to the new year for that time.

But, success also comes in other forms. To create a place that is so different to all others – and for it to be so wonderfully, gratefully appreciated by you, our customers, our friends. For this success, we are so grateful to you.
